Yes, you read that right, and no, it’s not just a catchy title. Read below and get the 411!
On average, women consume about 4 to 9 pounds of lipstick over their lifetime! While this number differs between every makeup user and how often they wear lipstick, it does affect everyone who wears lipstick. After all, lipsticks don’t just evaporate; they get smudged and eaten!
Toxin Ingestion Through Lipstick
What’s scarier than the idea of eating lipstick is eating lipstick made with the toxins found in conventional makeup. Lipsticks can contain levels of heavy metals, parabens, and chemicals, and the faster lipstick wears off, the bigger the impact of these toxins.
Studies done at UC Berkeley tested the use of over 30 lipsticks and lip glosses by young women, and they found high levels of heavy metals and ingestion. If lipstick is used on average twice daily, the Berkeley scientists found that the lipstick user ingests about 24 milligrams of product a day, which means about 1/16 of a pound per year. If you wouldn’t eat toxins and chemicals in your food, don’t put them on your lips!
